THE $175 MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION?

Can you name the Federal Government expenditure that increased by 24.9% in the 2006-2007 financial year... aged care; doctors and nursing training; health facilities; emergency housing, coastal surveillance or water infrastructure?

NO… not one of the above cash-neglected essential taxpayer services!

The answer:… Media Advertising!

In the financial year 2006-2007 the Federal Government spent a record $175 million hard-earned taxpayer's dollars on political advertisements. The biggest ads spender in the Australian economy… a figure that beat the previous year's biggest spender (Coles) by some $15 million.

Obviously lining the pockets of their media mogul mates will reap returned favours in the lead-up to Federal elections, after all, the party politicians are using hundreds of millions of taxpayer-dollars for self-promotion… not their own money!
